    Services

At Choices Consulting Inc,  we provide Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Evaluations include clinical/therapeutic evaluations focused on treatment and forensic evaluations for legal purposes, alongside various assessment tools such as questionnaires (e.g.,ASAM, DAST, AUDIT, MAST,  CAGE, CRAFFT), interviews. These evaluations assess substance use history, mental health, and functioning to determine the presence and severity of an SUD according to DSM-5 criteria.  We can help families develop a plan to help a family deal with  Addiction.

We also help with DOT, NON DOT, DISA RTD process

Return-to-Duty process requires safety-sensitive employees who failed or refused a drug/alcohol test to complete a federally mandated program before resuming duties. The process begins with a Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) evaluation, followed by the employee completing a recommended treatment or education plan. After treatment, a follow-up SAP evaluation determines eligibility for a DOT return-to-duty test, which must be negative, followed by a period of unannounced, observed follow-up tests.

     Steps for the Return-to-Duty Process

    1. 1. Removal from Duty:Immediately remove the employee from all safety-sensitive functions.
    2. 2. SAP Evaluation:Have the employee meet with a qualified DOT Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) for an initial evaluation. The SAP will determine if a substance abuse problem exists and recommend an appropriate treatment or education plan.
    3. 3. Completion of Treatment/Education:The employee must fully comply with and complete the treatment and/or education plan prescribed by the SAP.
    4. 4. Follow-Up SAP Evaluation:After completing the program, the employee undergoes a follow-up evaluation with the same SAP. The SAP then provides a report determining eligibility for return-to-duty testing.
    5. 5. Return-to-Duty (RTD) Testing:The employee must complete a DOT return-to-duty test that results in a negative drug or alcohol result. This test must be administered under direct observation and is requested by the employer or designated consortium/third-party administrator.
    6. 6. Follow-Up Testing:After passing the RTD test, the employee is eligible to resume safety-sensitive duties but must undergo at least six unannounced, observed follow-up tests within the first 12 months.

    Key Points

    • Compliance is Mandatory:This process is required for CDL drivers who test positive for drugs or alcohol or refuse a DOT test.
    • SAP is Key:The SAP is a crucial figure in the process, conducting evaluations and providing recommendations.
    • Negative Tests:A negative result on the RTD test is necessary to be cleared for work.
    • Follow-Up is Crucial:The follow-up testing schedule is a critical component of the return-to-duty process.
